You don’t get a second chance to make a good first impression

I am headed out to visit a new gym in a few minutes. It’s part of a national chain I have been hearing a lot about.

It’s time for me to check it out for myself, as a potential member would.

I know for sure that I will get a good workout and I’ll learn some interesting things about this business model.

I have learned a lot already. Last Thursday, I signed up online for my first workout, which is free. When I finished filling out the paperwork and choosing my class time, I suddenly got a message saying new people could not sign up for a class on the same day they filled out the paperwork. Surprise! Felt a little slimy, and I know what they are up to. More on that later…

Since Thursday I have received 3 phone calls about getting my first session scheduled. This might be a good thing in many situations, but it’s not a good thing for me.

They want me to arrive 30 minutes early for my orientation. I am pretty sure I know how this is going to go and I’ll report back to you later…

Finally, they told me I need to leave a “card” on file for equipment. They wanted my card number ahead of time in order to save time for the first session. Sneaky and very effective for some businesses, but It’s not building my trust.

The best part of this for me as a 6 Figure Trainer Mentor, it to get a chance to look at organizations from the prospective customer’s perspective.

I encourage each of you to periodically get out of your comfort zone and visit another facility as a prospective customer. It will open your eyes.

I’ll be reporting back to you after my visit!
