One of my turn-around business opportunities came out of the left-field when I was recruited as the CEO and Principal of a private school.
It was not a position I sought, but rather I was recruited by the school’s Board of Education.
My reputation for tuning fitness businesses around was-well established int the community and the Board made a convincing argument that I should accept the challenge to turn the school around.
We experienced huge success in a very short time, but I digress.
My Uncle was a school teacher who taught Physical Education. Every day of the school year he knew exactly how many days were left before summer vacation.
Every time I saw him, I asked the question and we both got a good laugh out of the exchange.
Carrying on in his footsteps, the first thing I did as a newly minted school principal was to figure out how many days were left in the school calendar, starting on the first day of school.
Every time I cited the number of days left, people smiled…. and relaxed a little.
The appropriate use of humor and entertainment are powerful tools when working with people.
Remember people are stressed out this time of the year. This includes your members and clients.
My tip for today would be to add some appropriate humor to the sessions you and your team lead. Make sure they’re safe, like the one I just gave you.
Your people will love you for it.
Remember they’re there for their reasons and having fun and being part of something big and exciting is what motivates them to skip the shopping and show up for a workout.
The answer: They suspected foul play.
