I just opened an email with an interesting message that made me smile!
I worked out at a YMCA over the holiday break and they just made a huge announcement.
They will not be accepting guest passes over the coming holiday and they are investigating/studying their guest pass policy.
They are so busy, they don’t have room to accept guest passes at this time and may discontinue the guest pass all together!
Their facility is new and more importantly, they have done a great job of marketing the business.
And as we know, the market for quality fitness programming is stronger than ever. It’s a perfect storm for them.
It’s a perfect storm for everyone in the fitness business right now.
Are you so busy that you don’t have room for guests? If not, why not?
I am willing to wager that 99% of the problems with most fitness business right now are rooted in their marketing efforts.
You see I have been on both sides of the marketing issue. My first real leadership role in the fitness business started with this same YMCA mentioned above at a very young age.
The first two years were very troubling and I almost lost my job because we were not growing.
Then the President took me under his wing and mentored me. For the next four years, my team and I turned the lemons into lemonade and built a lemonade stand. We became marketing rockstars and were sought out around the country to share our “secrets.”
