Row, row, row!

Traveling in an RV makes working out on a routine basis a bit of a challenge.

Besides being on the road a fair amount, there is a host of other obstacles including the weather, safety, and availability of equipment.

I like to ride a bicycle for my workouts, but I realized I needed something more last winter. So last week I made the plunge and purchased a Concept 2 rower. I am not sure there is a better, over-all workout on the planet.

My first workout was to row 21,000 meters in the Summer solstice challenge hosted by Concept 2. It was close to the 1/2 marathon distance of 21,097 meters, so I rounded up to get a half marathon in.

I was introduced to rowing over a decade ago. Back then I could not have imagined that anyone could row 21,000+ meters in one setting, much less myself. Those people were nuts! Definably outliers in my world.

Over time, and with some hard work, I became more and more accomplished on the rower. I concentrated on the basics, perfected my technique and became certified as an instructor. My crowning moment was holding a world record for the longest continual row in my age group.

Business success followed a similar path for me.

In the early days of owning my own boutique gym, I was simply trying to survive. I was working 24/7 and hardly had time to take the dog for a walk, much less get in my own workout.

I became an outlier again. I worked IN my business every day, and ON my business in small amounts whenever I could fit it in. Looking back, I wish I had doubled my time working ON my business. The focus would have paid off even faster for me.

Learning how to build a business is akin to learning any new worthwhile skill, or learning new habits that lead to a healthier life – the same things we teach our clients.

Eventually my commitment to building the business side of my business paid off, and I was able to take months off without losing income or clients.

Now I help others unravel the mystery of building a permanently profitable fitness business in record breaking time.

And if you really want to row 100,000 meters in one session, I can show you how to do that, too. But frankly, it’s much more gratifying to build the business.
