The Skill You Must Master In Business

How are your New Year goals coming along?

Too early to ask? If you feel that way, it’s a good sign you are doing great with your new goals and the jury is still out.

If you are like most people it’s already shaky at best. Statistically, most resolutions have already faded away or disappeared completely. And this is not just the people who come to us for their fitness goals.

We approach our business goals, just like our clients approach their fitness goals. We mean well, but life happens with numerous distractions.

How do we get back on track with our goals, specifically our goals to work on our business, In addition to the usual working in our business for this new year?

The experts tell us making change is a mathematical formula to becoming an expert on anything. They tell us the magic number is 10,000 hours. That would be working on something for 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 10 years. Wow!

I feel my eyes begin to glass over when I think about this statistic. Yet the average fast-growth business in the country is 11 years old. That is 11 years of dedicated (most likely much more than 4 hours a day), daily work to achieve massive success.

As a side note, most people I talk with do not realize that Orange Theory is 12 years old.

Let’s reduce this back a bit. We can accomplish great things is less than 10,000 hours, but we must devote some time to working on our business to get to the next level.

How do we find the time when our schedule is already booked solid. The answer is to start small and go from there.

Find some time in your schedule and create a routine. It may be only 10 minutes, so be it. Block this time in your schedule every working day for the next month. Treat it like the most important appointment you have, because it is. Be ruthless and never miss an appointment with yourself.

After a month you will have a new and very productive habit. Soon you will feel the progress you are making. In time your 10 minutes will expand.

Remember, your first step is to create the habit and you will never look back.
