I loved the movie, Field of Dreams.
Is there anyone who did not like it? What an inspiring and entertaining story.
“If you build it, they will come.” We all want to believe this is true and many people with fitness businesses believe this with their whole heart.
Thinking back, it’s crazy how much I believed it. I wanted to believe it.
I worked harder and harder on the things I thought would grow my business. I knew when I had the highest quality training programs around, people would flock to my doors and I’d have a waiting list. Never happened.
I was blinded. Dare say my ego was the real problem. I was content in my self-serving belief I had the answer, and it was improving the quality of my program, and the rest would take care of itself.
Struggle as I might, the success never came like I anticipated.
I did eventually get to a point where I didn’t need or want any more clients, but my program quality was only a part of that success. Ouch!
When stagnant growth made me realize that I didn’t have all the answers, I changed the focus of my efforts. When I reached out to others for perspective, I began to realize I needed to start working on my business, instead of in it all the time.
Where do you start?
By reaching out to others who have been there and overcome the challenges. By educating yourself about the industry and how to build a lasting business.
