Have you ever wondered how effective your emails are?
It’s a challenge for all of us that use email to communicate and stay in contact to know if our emails are being opened and, hopefully, read.
One old-school technique was to put something crazy in the middle of the email to see if anyone comments.
This idea came from students in college who were convinced the professors never read the long assignments. They would add something extraneous and humorous to the middle of a particularly long paper, knowing if the professor read it, they (the author) would hear about it.
We have come a long way, as the saying goes.
Today artificial intelligence is on constant guard, always looking to make sure you only receive good content. That’s a big order, that only AI could possibly handle.
I noticed something peculiar with my email lately. It looks as though a lot of people click on the link at the bottom of this page. Got me to wondering what was going on so I called my email provider to see if they had answers.
They did! And they told me that bots check the email and links constantly. The bot will click the link as one way to make certain the email is legit. Then on your email report, it shows up as a click from the email recipient.
So then I asked about the open rate. Here again, bots can make it look like your email was opened when if fact it was not.
I am not ready to say email is no longer effective, but we clearly need other marketing channels besides emails, and digital channels to complete our arsenal.
A good starting point, especially now that the world is opening back up, is to own some stock in word-of-mouth advertising and marketing.
If you want to explore some ideas, click on the link in the PS section. And of course, fill out the form. Bots don’t do that quite yet.
Remember: You only get results if you take action on your ideas. Do it now!
