Earlier this week I wrote about my appointment at a new barber shop and how excited I was about meeting the owners.
If you missed that email, I encourage you to check it out here.
My visit did not disappoint.
Interesting facts:
The barbershop is only open three days a week, for 7 hours each day
The two owners are the only barbers
They have been in business for 13 years
They are on a street with ongoing construction and one-way traffic for over 2 years
They have outstanding Google Reviews
They do little to no advertising
They are in a medium-sized town
I had to schedule online and it was ten days before I could get an appointment
They charge roughly twice what the competition charges for a haircut
When I entered the shop I was impressed with the spaciousness. They could easily add another six chairs.
The decor was simple with a clean look. The fooseball table, with plenty of room around it, was very nice.
The place had a clean, masculine, relaxing feel to it. Simple but thoughtful decorations and exhibits on the wall with lots of empty wall space.
The two owners were immediately friendly and engaged me in conversation right away. There was a nice mixture of sharing.
Eventually, I was able to ask questions about how they got started and why they were so clearly successful. I also wanted to know why they only worked three days a week and what they did in their spare time (the other four days).
Jon, my barber, started by saying it wasn’t about the haircuts. It was an experience where men could go and connect with each other.
He went on to say men need a place to go to share feelings, connect with other men, have meaningful conversations, and even get a hug. He added men need a place like this and those places simply don’t exist.
As far as the four day weekends, both men said their schedules are filled with family activities and hobbies, and their time in the barbershop did not feel like work at all.
Each said that the time in their business was fun and one of the most relaxing times of their weekly routines.
These business owners knew what they wanted and set up their lives to reflect their values, dreams, and goals.
They are among the happiest business owners I have ever met.
If you are wondering if you could have a schedule and a business like this, I can tell you that you definitely can!
I did it and I would love to show you how you can do it, too.
Should we have a conversation and see if my plan is a fit for you?
I would welcome that very much.
