Have your Eagles landed?

A few years ago I attended a fitness conference. The keynote speaker was Pat Riley, then the coach of the Lakers. Ok, it was more than a few years ago. 🙂

In his speech he talked about recruiting a high performance team, in the sports field and in business.

His message was that we have to go out and find Eagles to be on our team, not Ducks.

Eagles don’t flock like Ducks do.

It’s a great apology for today’s employment market.

Pat shared his inside secrets of how he recruited and retained eagles.

The first full week after the Labor Day weekend marks a new beginning. Every school in the country is up and running this week. Habits, rituals and routines for the coming year are being created and and implemented,

Members and clients are hungrier than ever for the products and services we offer, despite all the current uncertainty and skepticism about safety.

What separates one business from another down the road is the culture. Culture starts with the owner but he/she can only do so much.

It’s our team that promotes the culture, good or bad.

And it’s becoming more and more difficult to find quality team members.

We need to do what Pat Riley taught, and that is to go out and recruit eagles to join our team. This will separate us from the competition right down the street.

Only 20% of people get their employment through recruitment advertising. 80% of employees are recruited in today’s marketplace.

The message that we need to go out and find our eagles is clear.

We need a marketing plan for building our team, first, and then an action plan to recruit our prospects.

A simple one-page summary answering the question, why should I work here, given all my other options, is a great start.
