I Was Told I Have Desert Rat Blood

For this winter I have decided my winter home would be in the Sonoran Desert in Arizona, known for warm days and lots of sunshine.

I was volunteering at a local food bank yesterday and remarked about how cold it was in the building where we distribute the food packets to those in need.

I followed up my comment with a remark about how when I lived in the Northeast and experienced very harsh winters, this current temperature would not be cold to me.

A fellow worker looked at me and commented how I now had “Desert Rat Blood.”

Now that’s not something you hear every day and the comment got my attention.

I soon learned that every other volunteer knew what Desert Rat Blood was, except me.

I knew I was about to learn something new!

What I found was a label attached to how I was now perceiving “cold” weather. Desert Rat Blood is a change in our body and how we tolerate heat and cold.

In pursuing my dream of being in warm weather I have lost my tolerance for cold weather.

And I am okay with letting go of that past!

We set business goals for the coming year, which always involved doing the work to gain something we never had before in exchange for something we no longer want.

Our environment becomes critical to our success, and I am not referring to our physical environment, but our mental environment. Who are you hanging around with?

The importance of our tribe cannot be overstated. We become like those we hang around with and this has been proven in study after study.

Hang around successful people who have what we want and our outlook will change in the direction we want. We will develop a new perspective and in turn, will find our old perspective no longer tolerable.

Once our perspective has changed, it’s only a matter of time before our physical world changes and we experience success with our goals.

We have changed and transformed our thinking. The thinking that achieved results we no longer want, has been changed into new blood thinking that puts us squarely on the path to achieving our goals.

For the next few days, consider what you can do, and what you need to do, to alter your environment to move your future forward.
