In my journey back to the East Coast, I see a lot of truckers and get to read the “marketing” messages on the trucks.
A lot of the major companies are using the trucks as moving billboards to advertise and recruit new drivers.
Some (most) of the messaging is very boring. They talk about salaries and mileage reimbursements, and self-promote what a great company they are.
Occasionally, a company breaks the usual mode and promotes effectively, by promoting their culture first, even before benefits and features, like salaries and bonuses.
The reality is that truckers like some down time too, and the company that promotes that first generates more interest in the details.
Our employee teams, especially in today’s world, are more interested in culture than ever before.
Hourly rates and working conditions are still important, but only if the culture is something that the employee can identify with and support.
What is your culture?
How do you communicate your organizational culture, values, and things you believe in?
Sadly, most people drop the ball here.
We need this stuff printed up, and available for everyone to see.
Part of our new employee onboarding process should be a simple, single-page document that describes your culture, your values, and what’s important in the workplace.
Start your onboarding for new employees this way and you’ll save yourself time, energy, and frustration down the road.
If you are just starting out and would like a copy of what we use at 6 Figure Trainers, send me a return email with “culture” in the subject line. I’ll get a copy out to you within a day.
Remember, you get the best results if you take quick action on your ideas.
