I finished the Continental Divide Trail ride a couple of days ago and I’m back in Colorado, reintroducing myself to life off the trail.
Of course, the local television stations are very excited about Colorado Football given all that has happened with the CU Boulder team this year.
With 87 new players on the team this year, they surprised the football world by coming out of the gate strong. They won their first two games convincingly. Those wins put them on the national stage, subject to all kinds of scrutiny.
Then last weekend they were completely crushed by the Oregon Ducks.
All eyes were fixed on Head Coach Deion Sanders (Coach Prime) and what he said after the game.
We all have setbacks. Some are small and some are huge.
We set goals for our business and it didn’t happen as we anticipated, and we worked so hard.
It’s natural to feel some (often, a lot of) disappointment.
Disappointment can take over and control our future. When this happens we are guaranteed that our goals will not come to fruition.
How we respond to the disappointment is critical to our future.
Looking at our loss and the source of our disappointment as simply a part of the process of life is the healthy way to move forward, still tracking our goals.
While it can be very difficult, we need to accept the temporary loss, learn from it, and move on. Easier said than done.
But we can learn from other people experiencing losses, like Coach Prime.
In the interviews after the game, he offered no excuses. He simply called the loss, an old-fashioned butt-whooping. He added few details about how his team was out-played the entire game.
But it ended there, and he confidently talked about the future.
