My southern Florida tour continues to impress me.
Up to this point I have never experienced anything of Florida except the beaches along the coast. The interior is a completely different animal, both literally and figuratively.
I love new experiences, and this trip fits the bill perfectly.
Masks and signs about social distancing remind us we are not out of the woods yet, not by any stretch of the imagination.
And I certainly don’t have to tell you how difficult it is to find and retain competent team members.
But the good news is that they are out there. One of the critical keys to team management can be stated in five words, which also serves as a great philosophy.
Catch them doing something Good!
Years ago my business transformed almost overnight when my team focused on catching people doing something good. It was an intentional plan to find people doing something good
Once we got the hang of it, it was a lot of fun! We recognized the team member’s contribution publicly and rewarded them appropriately. It’s important to point out here that by appropriate, I mean appropriate to them.
Not everyone likes public announcements and fanfare. Some people are more appreciative of a personalized note and a gift certificate to a local coffee shop. The key is to know your people.
At the end of the day, you want to make working in your organization a world-class event in the minds of your people.
Remember: You only get results if you act on your ideas. Do it now!
