I am spending a fair amount of time reviewing the past year and planning for the next year.
I’ll wager money that you are doing the same.
As we think of all the possibilities, it can be more than a bit overwhelming.
The Stop, Start, Continue method works the best when capturing the right attitude and skills to take your life and your business to the next level all on one page.
Here’s how it works for your business.
Grab a pen and a piece of paper.
Set a timer for 20 minutes max.
Divide the paper into three sections and label the sections, Stop, Start, and Continue.
Under each section make a list of relevant items. For example, under Stop, list all the low-value things you have been doing in the past year that you need to stop.
Repeat the process for the remaining sections, Start and Continue.
Don’t overthink the process, just write down the first things that come to your mind.
Here’s the trap and the opportunity to get our attitudes straight. Most people have a lot of things they want to continue and even more things they want to start. Quite often there is very little in the stop section.
If you find yourself in this situation, take comfort that you are not alone.
Chances are your life is already full. Very few business people have a lot of time on their hands, just waiting to be filled.
With few exceptions, everything you want to Start will require that you Stop something of lesser value.
This is a decision requiring courage, the courage to let go of something in exchange for something of higher value, that will naturally occur given effort and time and can only occur if there is space in your schedule to do the work. Hence, the need to Stop something.
I know from personal experience, as well as working with my VIP clients, letting go can be scary. It requires faith. But only by letting go do we make the time and do the work that guarantees success.
This one-page exercise will force you to gain clarity and develop the attitude needed for success.
