When it’s all said and done the biggest challenges facing fitness business owners of the past four+ decades of my experience have not changed much.
Here are the top 3 concerns in random order:
Making enough money to pay the bills AND make a decent living
Getting a steady stream of new members
Keeping customers (building a community) for the long haul
The #1 above is easily addressed if #2 and #3 are solved. This is a marketing challenge.
If I have noticed anything that has changed significantly in the past few years, it’s the mystery of marketing. To most, especially me at the beginning of my career in the fitness business, marketing is a mystery that never gets solved and never goes away.
As one gym owner told me, “It seems I am always looking over my shoulder for the next member.”
Once we understand marketing for the small business, it’s really not that hard to develop a solid plan that produces results.
