In my travels to the Midwest, I stopped at a rest area for a little stretch and walk.
On my way to the main buildings, I noticed a guy with an obvious flat tire working on replacing the tire.
On my way back out of the building, with the healthiest food I could find in the restaurant, I notice that he had made no progress.
I have been in his position more than once and I know how frustrating life can be at times. I went over and asked if he needed help, and offered the use of my tools.
He started by telling me all the problems he was experiencing. What tools he and his son had were not up to the task ahead, and he was basically stuck. I already knew this from what I observed, but he needed to tell me.
Again, I offered my help and this time he paused and asked me, “How much will this cost me?”
It was my turn to be surprised as this was not what I was expecting.
I smiled and told him there would be no charge, and all I expected was for him to pay it forward.
Now it was his turn to be surprised.
Long story short, I got my tools and in fifteen minutes we had him back on the road again, a happy traveler.
If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Not bad advice most of the time. Especially in business.
However, some things that sound too good to be true, are actually true, and that is good.
The challenge is to be able to know the difference.
Take my offer in the PS below for example. I have NEVER had anyone say anything but positive things about our exploratory, 30-minute conversations.
I have had people give me great reviews on the conversation even though they never became clients or customers.
I understand the hesitation and doubt. In fact, some people might unsubscribe from this list because they doubt the authenticity of the offer.
But, If you think a conversation might help you fix or grow your business, this is your opportunity to put my offer to the test.
Like the stranger in the parking lot needing help, there is no cost to you, no downside.
Remember, you only get results when you take immediate action on your ideas.
