How Do You Deal With Discouragement

Today marks one month since I set off on a 3,500-mile motorcycle ride on the Continental Divide Trail.

It was memories, and stories for a lifetime. Riding a dual purpose heavy motorcycle on trails is a daily challenge requiring intense focus.

My VIP clients and I did not miss a beat. We met as usual and their businesses continue to explode.

Now it’s a new month and the trail is behind me.

I would by lying if I said I was not disoriented, a bit discouraged, and even depressed.

I don’t usually write about these kinds of feelings. I prefer to remain optimistic and encouraging, but the reality is that I am struggling a bit, as we all do after a goal is achieved.

I’m not too concerned, because I have been here before. This usually happens to some degree after every major event in my life.

Over time I have learned these feelings are very common among high achievers.

So what do we do?

Let’s say you had a really big goal last month and you achieved it. Or you negotiated a new relationship with another business and you’re set to double the number of people you are serving.

After all the work, it’s natural to feel a bit of a letdown.

What we do next is critical. Here are the basic steps I follow to get back on track quickly:

  1. Take some time to relax and reflect on the adventure/journey. In my case, I like to journal and record the highlights and things I want to remember from this experience.
  2. Connect with people who understand my situation. These are my trusted advisors and confidants.
  3. Celebrate the victory.
  4. Reward myself with something physical to serve as a reminder of the challenge and my victory.
  5. Re-work my ideal day exercise.
  6. Seek more input from my mentors, if I did not do that already in #3 above.
  7. Set some new big-thinking goals with the help and advice of my mentors.
  8. Get started on the next challenge/adventure.

If you would like to talk about your business’s future and how to explode your business now, get on my calendar and let’s talk. It’s free to you.

Remember, you only get results when you take immediate action on your ideas.
