The Sonoran desert is a fascinating place with so much to do and discover.
Last winter I found some Petroglyphs and failed in my attempt to find the corn grinding holes which were in the vicinity of the Petroglyphs.
I guess I was expecting signage or some markings, but in the desert you might have GPS coordinates, if you’re lucky.
But even with coordinates, if you’re 5 feet off, you might as well be miles away.
Anyway, this year we found them.
I was stunned. How much corn has to be ground to make a hole 18 inches deep?
A lot, I thought, as I marveled at my new findings, and my expanded perspective .
The similarities to the business world amaze me.
The lesson of the corn grinding holes is the value of time.
When at first we don’t succeed, the key is to persevere, to carry on!
We read about this quality from all the philosophers. We hear about it from all the people we consider successful.
Yet we fail to understand what perseverance means when no one is looking.
It’s staying after a fitness class to simply sit and try to recuperate, knowing you gave the class your all.
It’s struggling with growing the marketing arm of your business when nothing seems to be working.
It’s hanging in there, solving problem after problem until you begin to make real headway.
On this President’s Day, let’s take a moment to celebrate the struggle.
Struggle is the precursor of success.
It always has been, even with ancient civilizations.
Remember, you only get results if you take immediate action on your ideas!
