I Wouldn’t Have Listened To You Anyway

Several years ago I watched as a friend started a fitness business.

I watched from a distance as I was traveling in other parts of the country.

Her posts on Social media were great. Things looked great for her and her clients.

With decades of experience in the business and first-hand knowledge of her location, I had my suspicions.

Eventually, my travels took me back to visiting my relatives, and I passed by her location several times.

On my last visit, I stopped in to see how she was doing.

Like most of us, she got into the fitness business without business experience. While she had many successes in other venues, she was not prepared for the fitness business world.

To my surprise, she was at her wit’s end with the business and ready to throw the towel in!

This is a common theme in the fitness business world.

Well-meaning people who are following their passion and believing with all their heart that, “if I build it, they will come.”

This is a great storyline for a movie, but not a good business plan.

Thinking that I might be able to help her with the 6 Figure Trainers program, we scheduled a time to meet.

By the time we met, she had already decided to get out of the business.

We explored the options I teach in 6 Figure Trainers on how to shut a business down. Yes, this happens a lot.

During the conversation, I commented that I wished I had reached out to her when she first started her business.

That’s when she said, “I wouldn’t have listened to you anyway.” Truth be told, when I was in her situation I did not want help or seek wisdom, either.

Then my business life came crashing down. With hard work and intense focus, my team and I turned the corner and made lemonade out of the lemons.

This massive shift only happened because I sought out and listened to successful people who had gone the route before me.

The lesson to be learned here is to reach out when your business is frustrating you. Reach out long before you get to the end of the rope.

Look for someone who has been there, done that, and turned lemons into lemonade.
