When I first started in the fitness business world I knew I had to work hard.
So I worked harder and harder.
I studied business models and read books to learn how to be more efficient.
I made daily lists and “crushed it,” day in and day out.
I got a lot done. But there was always more to do.
Then I talked to one of my mentors who turned my world upside down by telling me my goal was to do less.
If there is any business that models the ethic of working harder, it’s the fitness world.
But the trick is to do less, not more. That is if you want to avoid burning out after a decade or so.
The long-term successes have figured out how to do less and still get everything, and even more, done.
The key is to offload everything to a team of helpers.
My first General Manager was a stay-at-home Mom looking to re-enter the business world. She offered to be my General Manager in exchange for some training. Although she only worked for me for a few months, she created the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that we used for years.
My custodian was another Mom who loved to clean. Yes, there are those people and I love having them on my team. She even cleaned the inside of our PVC training bars every two weeks. We had the cleanest gym around
While there were more, just these two examples freed up a tremendous amount of my time, and mental energies, for other things.
How do you get help like this? Ask around. You’ll be surprised by what’s out there in terms of help.
You will also notice your energy and excitement about your business will grow when you have people that allow you to do less. And that attitude is contagious!
Remember, you only get results when you take immediate action on your ideas.
