Last night I sat down and watched the movie, Miracle, again.
In case you don’t know the story, it’s about the USA Hockey team, coached by Herb Brooks.
Against all odds, the USA team made up of amateurs (You had to be an amateur to be in the Olympics back then) went on to accomplish one of the greatest upsets in sports history when they defeated the powerhouse Soviet Union Team.
There are so many lessons from this movie.
If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend watching it now. And if you’ve already seen it, it’s worth a repeat.
Yesterday I wrote about how important your “why” is to business success.
The “why” can be called a dream or vision or whatever, but it comes down to why do you want this?
Most of us figure out the “why” in several ways. It can be an overwhelming desire lingering in the back of our minds that nags at us, sometimes very loudly, and sometimes a very quiet nagging thought that appears on occasion.
In either case what stops most people from going for it is fear. Fear of failure and more often, though hard to discern, the fear of success.
We can get over our fear with discipline and will power, but that’s an exhaustible source of energy.
A far better way to build our why is in small steps that reinforce our belief that our why is possible.
In the 12 Days of Christmas Fitness Business Challenge all of the small steps are carefully designed to build your belief that anything is possible.
Small steps build the confidence to take a risk and go on to the next step.
And the process continues, but only if you stay with it.
Business is a ground game. Hail Mary passes are so few and far between that we remember them with great clarity.
Herb Brooks added small steps in redesigning how the game of hockey was played against the Soviet Union’s team. The players repeated and repeated his drills to exhaustion.
As they repeated the drills their belief in their why grew and success was inevitable, and remembered forever.
If you’re uncertain about how exactly to overcome the challenges facing the fitness business today, stick with the basics of a new game plan, starting with the challenges in the 12 Days of Christmas Fitness Business Challenge, and feel your “why” get stronger.
More to follow tomorrow.
