Mystery Shopping Your Business Will Lead To Interesting Discoveries

Even before the internet was a thing I was not much of a shopper.

A group of my friends and I used to wait until Christmas eve every year and then all meet at the mall on Christmas Eve to get our shopping done. It was fun and we justified how much time we saved.

Come to think of it, I never wait until the last minute now, thanks to the internet.

Every so often, and especially in December, we need to mystery shop our business.

This is quite easy and usually reveals more than one surprise.

You can do this yourself, but I highly recommend asking a friend to do this for you.

What they need to do is approach your business as a stranger and see how easy, or hard it is to buy from you. You can give them parameters, but I like to challenge them to try to find the holes, or gaps in my systems. Start with your online presence.

They will hopefully report back to you about how easy or hard it was to get to your shopping cart. If it takes more than three clicks, you have a problem. Broken links, even worse.

Additional feedback about the colors, pictures, and layouts can be productive. In all cases look for ease and simplicity.

Do the same with your sticks and bricks location. People do not like to be sold, but they love to buy. Make the buying experience natural and fun. Your bank account will grow.

Getting two or three people to mystery shop your systems will produce even bigger rewards for you.

Now is the time to do this because your site and location will be shopped for real by the January crowd looking to attack the new year. Make it easy for them.
