In Robert Pirsig’s book, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, he compares motorcycle riding on the road to riding in an automobile.
He writes that being in a car, one is behind the windshield looking at the world as it goes by, similar to watching a movie. On the motorcycle, there is no windshield and one is starring in the movie.
I really like this analogy. Starring in a movie, and staying safe on two wheels requires unending focus, especially in today’s distracted world.
Having to maintain this focus is one of the things that I really like about being on two wheels, bicycle or motorcycle.
Business success requires focused time working ON the business.
This is where business owners struggle the most. Shiny objects fill our life and easily distract us and keep us from the bigger goals that will, with a minimum of focused attention, lead us to the success we desire.
How we maintain focus is critical. Right now I am looking at my favorite tool to keep me on track, a timer.
My favorite timer is an analog timer that you set for a period of time, and when time’s up, it rings. it costs less than $20.
For a quick look at the timer I use, and highly recommend, check out this 1-minute video.
The Best Business Productivity Tool Of All Time.
I know there are all kinds of other timers out there, so you may be wondering why I like this one. With other timers on my watch, phone, or computer screen, they all have one thing in common, tons of distractions. I don’t seem to be able to avoid the distracting temptations the digital versions continually offer me.
My basic analog timer works magic and keeps me focused.
Try it, I think you’ll agree, a good timer is a game changer for your productivity.
