This Is Your Most Important Year-End Task

Based on the traffic on the highway, the holiday season has begun!

I am headed to a secluded spot for the next few weeks to put the final touches on a new book I am writing. Stay tuned for the details.

It’s more natural right now than any other time of the year to look both forward and backward. We look at the past year, reflect on it, and at the same time we plan for the next year.

To make the most of this natural momentum, our first step is to plan a celebration!

Most fitness businesses have gone through some very trying times. And for many owners, there is still the clarity at the end of the tunnel they hoped for a year ago.

But…

There have been some very good things that have happened to all of us.

If nothing else, we need to acknowledge that we are still in business. While this may be the only blessing, which I sincerely doubt, we can start here.

Got a list of good things from last year. Great!

Now it’s party time!

How are you going to celebrate? I am not talking about your tribe’s celebration. I wrote about that a few weeks ago.

This celebration is for you, and it’s critically important for you to follow through with this.

What you do, doesn’t matter as much as if/when you do it. A celebration of past successes cements in our mind the positives of the past year, and lays the foundation for another year of positives going forward.

The possibilities are endless, but your celebration should happen in the physical world. Sitting and reflecting won’t make the cut.

Out to dinner, a hike in nature, a special “treat” meal, a special article of clothing. Again the possibilities are limitless.

Once I wrapped my head around this concept and actually carried it out, I realized how important the celebration is. I vividly remember my first two-day mini trip to celebrate the previous year, in the quaint little town of Lake Placid, New York.

Don’t wait until the last few days of the year to plan your celebration. Put the plans in place today!
