I attended a really good training event this past weekend.
In fact, I’m still on a high from all the great information that was shared.
Make no mistake about it, things have changed in the business, but you already know that.
Of particular interest to me, and most of my clients, is recruiting and retaining staff in these times.
Wherever I travel there is a plethora of signs announcing employment opportunities. The market favors the employee by a long shot.
And we may even lose our current employees as they are inundated by other opportunities.
Sooner or later, it’s bound to happen.
I heard an example I just have to share with you.
Imagine that you lost your dog. Would you post a sign somewhere, close your door, and go to bed as usual? Of course not! You pull out all the stops when your dog is missing!
The speaker’s point is exactly this: We need to approach a staff opening just like we would if we lost our dog.
Post signs for the staff opening, asap. Get out there and look for new people. Don’t stop until you have found a solution! Don’t hesitate to be assertive and lead with your Unique Value Proposition and your values.
Sounds crazy, but it’s always been this way. Winners are already employed, and we have to go find them.
The best hiring decision I ever made was when I called up someone who was not looking for a job. It took a while but I was able to convince her to join my team, a decision both of us were forever happy with.
Together we made things rock!
Today, it’s even more important to go after the people we need, just like we would go after our lost dog.
