I was riding my gravel grinder bike on a trail in the desert yesterday.
The sun was out and very warm in contrast to the overnight cold. It was unusual to have so little wind and I was thoroughly enjoying the ride.
I noticed a few drops of water on my leg and I knew it came from my water bottle.
The thought briefly crossed my mind that I had never felt water on my leg from the bottle. I never thought to consider the situation any further, because it was one of the most enjoyable rides in a very long time.
When I finished the ride I was shocked to see that the top of the water bottle was missing.
This had never happened before.
I know if fell off for some reason, and by now it’s been run over by multiple vehicles on that desert road!
If I had only thought for a minute, focused on the bigger picture, and looked around, I would have seen the white top in the middle of the desert road.
Too late now.
Timing is everything!
