A 30-Inch Long Potato Masher

I grew up in a large family. Potatoes were a daily staple at our table.

Mom expected all of her seven children to complete some age-appropriate work around the house. When we reached a certain age we were handed the potato peeler and taught the fine art of peeling a potato.

I didn’t like this daily task. Negotiating with Mom was pointless and the only solution I came up with was to peel the potatoes fast. I practiced every day and got really good at this task.

Although I am sure it’s a perishable skill, to this day I have not lost a potato peeling contest.

A couple of days ago I signed up to be a volunteer at a local event hosting a Christmas Dinner for several hundred people.

My assigned job was mashing the potatoes. I felt right at home and for several days I wondered what the job entailed because I had been told that my job was reserved for strong men.

Then yesterday my questions were answered.

The buckets of cooked potatoes were HUGE.

I was handed my masher which was over two feet long! I never saw such a big masher as I smiled and got to work. Soon the potatoes were nicely mashed and my shoulder workout was done for the day.

The right tool for the job is important when mashing potatoes and having the right tool in the business world is important for closing the sale for a new customer.

If the business has only one closing tool, the chances for success pale in comparison to the closing rate when there are several tools available.

Not every situation is the same, and while there are proven strategies for closing the sale, the tools (tactics) will vary according to the needs of the clients.

How many tactics do you have for closing a sale?

Do you have graphs and charts for those that relate to that kind of data?

Do you have success stories for those who just want the results?

Do you have video examples of people having a good time for prospects wanting to be part of an exciting adventure?

Do you have a tactic for the visually impaired prospect?

Take an inventory today of your tools and plan now to update your closing options.

Remember, you only get results when you take immediate action on your ideas.
