Another Lesson From Arnold

I hope you are all enjoying Memorial Day with your loved ones. We can enjoy the lives we have today because of the countless men and women who gave their all. We owe them so much.

During a bit of holiday downtime, I spent a little time checking out some YouTube videos on Arnold.

Arnold has always been someone I admire.

He is flawed, and yet he bounces back from every challenge, seemingly stronger each time.

The three-part documentary on his life is scheduled to be released next week and of course, there will be a lot of publicity about him and his life.

While there are many things that define Arnold, one theme stands out throughout his life. Can you guess what it is?

In business, we are always planning and moving toward some goal.

Do you know of anyone who doesn’t have a big goal of some kind? It’s really part of human nature.

Civilization would not have evolved as it has without people setting and achieving goals that individually and collectively improve our life.

The difference between those that achieve big goals and those that come up short comes down to habits.

It’s one thing to set a big lofty goal.

The defining difference between goal success and failure can be summed up in one word – habits. Habits create the space and time for us to do the work necessary to achieve the goal.

If our clients want to lose or gain weight we help them create the habits needed to achieve that goal.

If we want to learn a new skill, first we clearly identify that skill and then set up the habits in our life where we can study and practice the skill until we master it.

The same applies to business goals.

A goal to grow our business automatically requires new skills, which require new habits that, in time, give us the skills, and in turn, the goal results we seek.

A goal, especially a goal that requires us to stretch and grow (the only kind worth pursuing), without a new habit to support the goal, is doomed for failure.

A high achiever like Arnold is successful in a number of careers because he creates new habits to reach his new goals, every time, over and over again.

Any of us, all of us, can tap into the same power.

Think BIG and create habits to support those goals. Rinse and repeat as the saying goes.

Remember, you only get results when you take immediate action on your ideas.
