It was going to happen sooner or later.
I started having problems with my truck yesterday during my travels to my new location.
At first, I noticed a little inconsistency, but over the next couple of hours of driving, the inconsistency turned into a real concern.
I arrived at a planned intermediate stop on my journey and made a decision not to leave until the problem was solved. The first blessing, of course, is that I am safe and not on the side of the road.
I believe in preventative maintenance, and this has never happened to me before.
I have also learned (the hard way) to be as prepared as possible and am in a safe parking lot with a fully stocked RV.
Today is going to be a new adventure for me!
Life happens in business all the time.
We are thrown a curve ball with things we didn’t anticipate or are out of our control, and things in our control that we never anticipated and prepared for.
When the inevitable happens, we are surprised, perhaps even shocked.
This is where we have a choice.
For example, a well-loved, loyal, and dedicated staff person decides to leave and they take half of your business with them. I remember well the first time this happened to me.
I remember it well because it was also the last time that happened to me. After that, I was prepared. Experience does that to us.
If you could not go to work tomorrow, would your business continue as usual without you?
Would your income decrease, or stay the same?
If your business and income depend on you, it’s really not a business.
This is the sad reality of many small fitness businesses, but it does not have to be that way. The key is to build the systems to eliminate your role.
The irony is that when you don’t have to show up at your business, it’s a lot more fun to own and operate it.
If you’re not sure where to start, find someone who has been there and done that, and buy them a cup of coffee, or better yet, get on my calendar for some ideas. It’s free!
We’ll call it a virtual cup of coffee. 🙂
Remember, you only get results when you take immediate action on your ideas.
