How To Make Tough Decisions

Despite vaccinations and boosters I have tested positive for the dreaded C****-19. Ugh. (Interestingly, If I write it out the spam warnings flare up.)

I have alternating bursts of energy and tiredness.

Right now I have energy, and before it’s gone, I wanted to give you this valuable information, so this email will be short and to the point.

We all have to make tough decisions as business owners. It’s usually a case of several options, all of which seem to have merit, in unique ways.

How do you sort this out and make the best decision, given all the options?

  1. Start with a sheet of paper and a pen.
  2. Set a timer for 5 minutes
  3. Write out 10 possible solutions. At this stage do not evaluate or judge the options and do not stop until you have 10, no matter how crazy they may seem.
  4. Stop the timer – Congratulations! You have completed the hard part.
  5. Pick the option that stands out and seems to be the best one.
  6. Make a list of 10 action steps you can take right now to start moving forward with implementing your decision (Again, setting a timer helps a lot.)
  7. Sort your list of 10 action steps and rank them from 1 to 10.
  8. Start working your way down the list, in order of your assigned importance. Don’t skip any numbers.

You will notice a sense of relief as you master each step. This comes from the confidence of knowing you made the best decision possible, given all the alternatives.
