It’s Time To Check In

Every day we are bombarded with reminders to check-in.

It’s like we have a mini-dashboard on our phones keeping us on track and on schedule.

Have you flown anywhere lately? If I don’t check in with the first notice I get from the airlines, the reminders keep coming until I do. Once I have checked in, then I get important updates.

Got a piece of mail coming, or a package? Nearly everything has a tracking number now and we are constantly updated.

The list of examples continues.

The purpose, of course, is to give us updated information and keep our lives on course.

The same applies to the business world, with one huge difference.

As business owners we need to create our systems to keep our business lives on track. No one is going to do it for us. It’s one of those things that is Important and not usually urgent.

You can’t manage what you can’t measure, and you can measure, with a little creativity, anything. Successful business owners measure, and monitor, the critical aspects of their business.

Successful business owners create a dashboard, and reminders to routinely check the metrics.

The critical data each business owner should measure and respond to on a daily basis, include, but are not limited to:

  1. Financial performance
  2. Marketing results
  3. Customer satisfaction
  4. Progress toward specific goals

A daily dashboard is an ideal way to get a quick read on how your organization is doing. The dashboard can be digital, or analogue. it doesn’t matter. The important thing is to use the dashboard every day to keep a pulse on the real status of your business.

The mind is incredibly powerful and if you know where you stand with each of your dashboard items, your mind will work in the background to move you forward in each area needing attention.

One of the ethos of a good team is “no surprises.” This happens when everyone communicates the important things going on in an organization.

One of the ethos of good personal management is also “no surprises.” This happens when we have a daily dashboard that keeps us informed and focused.

If you don’t have a dashboard that you look at every day, now is the time to put one in place.
