Part 3 – Addressing Mental Health In Fitness Programs

I was riding north on my motorcycle in western Wyoming earlier this week and the winds were intense.

I have ridden in wind before, but never like this. Permanent warning signs dotted the highway so this area is known for windy conditions up to 70 mph, and was a huge surprise to me.

Truckers were even traveling unusually slow on the interstate. Riding on two wheels in those conditions requires focus and attention to detail, and is frankly discouraging.

Staying positive when riding solo in these conditions is tough and I can only take it for so long.

I got off at the next exit for fuel. I had to talk to someone and break the discouragement cycle.

The third strategy for addressing mental health in our fitness programs is to keep people focused on the positive.

This is not easy, but it is doable.

First and foremost, the fitness business is a people business, and we have many conversations and interactions with our tribe each and every day.

Often people come to us seeking answers to problems they are experiencing. Sometimes they just want to vent, sometimes just to talk.

Whatever the situation, as we listen, when things start to turn negative, the strategy is to help, as much as possible, the person focus on the positive.

This can be a big challenge and it takes practice to gently turn the conversation toward some positive aspect of the conversation. You’ll know when you find it by the facial expression and slight changes in the body language of the person you are talking to.

Once the focus has changed to something a bit more positive, even if it’s very small, you have made a positive impact on the person’s outlook and they simply feel a little better.

Do this in every conversation and people will gravitate to you in times of mental stress.

Another benefit of this strategy is that you will feel better too!

If you would like to talk about more specific strategies you can follow to explode your business now, get on my calendar, and let’s talk. It’s free to you.

Remember, you only get results when you take immediate action on your ideas.
