The Truck Stop From Hades

I drive a diesel truck and because I use a fuel discount card, I refuel in the truck lanes.

I really enjoy using those lanes, because there is a system and the drivers are very courteous, and friendly. It’s a much better experience than being on the passenger side of the business.

Usually.

I had problems at the pump and had to make five trips back to the service counter to try and sort the issues out and dispense the fuel.

But the bigger problem was the employees. Instead of helping, they were critical, insulting, and demeaning. Their ineptness was unbelievable, and I asked for the manager.

His attitude was even worse, and problems with the employees quickly came into focus. They were not trained and supervised by a competent supervisor.

When this happens in business, we have one and only one solution. Replace the leader immediately. Failure to take immediate action only leads to more of the same and things go downhill quickly.

Yet, we tend to hesitate, especially in a labor market like we are experiencing now. We struggle with our limited options.

One of the best solutions, if not the best, is to move someone into the position as an Interim to the job title, Interim Manager for example.

This gives you and the person filling this role great flexibility. Both parties get to try out the role and responsibilities.

More often than not, I have seen interims turn out to be outstanding employees, managers, and leaders, lifting the attitudes of everyone around them.

Remember you get results if you take immediate action on your idea!
