You’ve Been Asked To Speak In Front Of A Large Audience…

I had a meeting with a powerful CEO once and he stood me up!

Sound familiar?

He sent me off to HR which was a waste of time.

As I pushed the button to open the elevator door, the CEO who had blown me off came charging into the elevator to rush off to another meeting.

As the door closed he asked my name and when I told him, he suddenly realized I was the guy in the meeting he just blew off.

So he asked what I did.

Really? I had just told him on the phone a couple of days ago when he wanted to meet with me to learn more!

Anyway, we were going down only one floor to get to the lobby.

You have heard of an elevator speech I am sure. Here we were!

I was ready, and I knew it.

My answer to his question was 4.7 seconds long. I knew this because I had rehearsed it.

I answered his question and went silent.

I knew he was in a rush so I offered him first exit out the door.

He wanted more information and started asking question as he held the door open for me.

Then we stood in the lobby with him asking for more details.

Because he was asking I continued on with my 10, 30, and 90 second follow-ups.

I was surprised that he suddenly had this time on his hands, since he was in such a rush.

Inside I was beaming with pride that I was truly ready with my elevator speech.
