In need of a diversion from routine yesterday, I turned on the radio.
It’s always interesting to see how local businesses advertise on the small local radio stations.
Most do not employ talent, but use themselves as the voice talent in the ad. Some do a better job than others, as to be expected.
But there’s more that gives the local radio station it’s unique flavor, and gives us free and valuable insights to what works now.
Studying what other business like ours do, is a wise way to keep up with the competition.
But it has it’s limits.
Looking sideways at what other businesses, unlike our own, is a valuable use of time if we focus on the concepts and techniques, rather than the specifics.
For instance, I heard an ad on the radio advertising for a Bee Removal Service.
This local business caught my attention because of two words, “no kill” in their ad.
We would not have heard this in a similar ad years ago. It was not important then, but it is now.
The market has changed, and people’s needs have changed along with it. In today’s world, it’s important to protect the bees while removing them.
This company knows their potential customers and has adjusted their marketing accordingly.
Speaking of adjusting your marketing to match the changing times.
Starting next week I will be offering some free mentoring on how to reboot your business in the pandemic world.
