Hiring Winners, Part 5

The negative effects of long-distance running on pavement have caught up to me, and today’s adventure was foot surgery.

Ouch!

I’ll be confined for a while, but as soon as the drugs wear off 🙂 I’ll have a pile of things to tackle.

For the record, the positive effect of all that running far outweighs the negative.

The events I was able to participate in and the people I met along the way changed the trajectory of my life, for the better.

In our interviewing process, we are up to Part 5 in our series.

The fifth step is to bring the interview team back together to compare interview notes, impressions, and recommendations.

The interview team understands your business from a very unique and useful perspective. They understand the type of people who will contribute to the business. During their interviews, they formed thoughts, impressions, and feelings about each candidate.

Your debrief should be designed to bring everyone’s thoughts and impressions to the forefront and your debrief meeting should be scripted carefully.

Develop an outline of the meeting in advance and share it with everyone. Each person needs a segment of time, usually 5 minutes, for them to share their findings and impressions.

After initial impressions are shared by all the team members, there should be a period of time dedicated to open discussion where each member of the team gets to ask questions of the other team members.

Finally, the last item on the agenda is about suitability and recommendations for the job from the committee members.

The decision is the supervisor’s responsibility. However, using a team of interviewers increases the odds of the best decision possible.

Have fun with this process. If you would like to talk about how all this relates to your situation, use the PS below to schedule a time for us to talk. It costs you nothing and I guarantee you will leave the conversation energized.
